August in the Vail Valley is a wonderful time of year with many community events to enjoy. We have what many would consider being near-perfect weather and the number of outdoor activities is hard to beat. Have you had a chance to enjoy some of our local amenities lately? Here are a few that you might want to check out!

Betty Ford Alpine Gardens

The Betty Ford Alpine Gardens is a beautiful place to spend an afternoon. And if you haven’t had the chance to, there’s still time to catch some of their fun weekly family activities (they end August 12th) or one of their guided tours that wind through the five-acre gardens. Your guide will teach you about flora, the mountain environments, the identification of plants in the gardens, and the history of both the gardens and the Vail Valley.

The guided tours start at 10:30 but plan to arrive several minutes early. And spots are limited so I would suggest registering in advance! If you take the kids to one of the family activities parents are welcome to tour the gardens for the hour and a half session while the kids discover the beauty of the natural world. Each child is only $10 and parents are free!

Kids Adventure Games

If the kids need to burn off some energy after a garden tour you might consider taking them to one of the summer’s most anticipated community events in the Vail Valley, the Kids Adventure Games! The Adventure Games are coming to Vail August 11-15th. This multi-course race features teams of two who brave a mountain bike course, rope swings, mud pits, cargo nets, zip lines, water obstacles, a giant Slip ‘N Slide, and more!

The kids are sure to enjoy the challenging course and imagine their sense of accomplishment having completed it! You can register your team and find all of the information on their website. Here’s the link

Vail Valley Brew’Au

If you’re looking for entertainment that’s geared a bit more for the adults you should definitely check out the Vail Valley Brew’Au. What exactly is a Brew’Au? Well according to the event creators is a combination of a beer festival and a lu’au! And it has a little bit of everything, including a professional sandcastle building competition. This is the third annual Vail Valley Brew Fest and will include three bands, food trucks, and of course, beer! There is also fun for the kids – so bring the whole family! With your ticket purchase, you will also get a glass sampling cup to take home.

Vail Valley Brew Fest is Saturday, August 21st in Harry A. Nottingham Park. If you purchase your tickets ahead of time you’ll get a discounted price. You can do that and check out all of the event details by clicking here
