Fall in the Vail Valley is remarkably beautiful. As the weather turns colder, the aspen trees that blanket the surrounding mountains change from a leafy green to bright golden yellow. It’s perfect for scenic hikes, one more fishing trip, or an ATV ride through the mountains before winter hits us.

Fall Colors in the Mountains

If you’re hoping to take in some of the changing colors on a scenic drive through the Vail Valley mountains, the Farmers Almanac is predicting the peak fall colors will arrive in Colorado between October 5-14th. But you’ll be able to catch them much sooner in the following locations:

September 15-30

  • Steamboat & Flat Tops
  • Rocky Mountain National Park

September 17-Oct. 1

  • Aspen
  • Grand Mesa
  • Gunnison
  • Sawatch Range

September 19- Oct. 3

  • Northern San Juan Mountains
  • Southern San Juan Mountains
  • Sangre De Cristo

End of Summer Community Celebration

Thursday, September 09 at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater the Vail Valley Foundation is hosting an End of Summer Community Celebration concert. This free, family-friendly event is the perfect opportunity for our community to gather and celebrate the cooling weather and end of the summer sunshine.

It’s also a wonderful opportunity to give thanks to the local heroes, our first responders, and healthcare professionals, the teachers, public servants, and hospitality workers that have done their jobs day in and day out during this tumultuous, and unpredictable year. The concert is free and open to groups of all ages. There will be several local musicians taking the stage, as well as food and drink specials. Gates open at 4:00!

The American Lamb Cook-Off

Do you love to cook? Or just enjoy great food? On September 16 you can enjoy the ultimate in culinary talents with the Taste of Vail’s American Lamb Cook-Off.
